Amongst the regional languages Tamil, Bengali, Telugu had topped the charts of the most viewed during August-December 2020 with 17 per cent, 14 per cent, 13 per cent respectively. Then it is followed by Kannada at 12 per cent, Marathi at 9 per cent, Punjabi at 8 per cent, Malayalam at 8 per cent, Bhojpuri at 6 per cent, Assamese at 6 per cent, Gujarati at 4 per cent and the others at 3 per cent.

The Tamil TV has 1 state-owned, 17 General entertainment, 5 movies, 6 music, 10 news, 2 comedy, 10 Kids, 4 Information & Entertainment (Tamil Feed), 2 shopping and 2 religious channels.

The Ad volume on Tamil GEC is 42 per cent, Tamil News at 24 per cent, Tamil Music at 17 per cent, Tamil Movies at 15 per cent and others at 2 per cent according to a study by Ad Ex.

The Ad volume on Bengali News is 38 per cent, Bengali GEC is 34 per cent, Bengali Movies at 21 per cent and others at 7 per cent.

Telugu

Ad volume of Telugu news was the highest at 35 per cent, followed by Telugu GEC content at 29 per cent, Telugu Movies at 19 per cent Telugu Music at 11 per cent and Telugu kids at 3 per cent.

Telugu had the highest number of news channels among regional languages in the television market in India in 2019. With 19 channels for news, Telegu was primarily consumed in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This accounted for 98 per cent of news consumption in that region.
